Dear John Peschong, 1st District Supervisor:

We firmly oppose the proposed construction of a gas station along Vineyard (Project No. N-DRC2024-00022 - AU Energy LLC Gas Station Facility.) This proposed development does not serve the community in any way whatsoever and does not align with Templeton’s values. It will:

• Increase traffic in an already congested area of our community

• Contribute noise and light pollution in a quiet residential area

• Attract a criminal element to Templeton, with proposed operations being 24/7

• Contribute trash and waste through the proposed sale of alcohol and convenience store items

• Further impact any walkability along Vineyard for school kids

• Increase exposure to chemicals and pollutants to our community

• Pose an environmental & fire hazard, and health risk

• Decrease housing value for those residences in proximity, and is adjacent to Residential Single Family, violating county land use code 22.30.130.A.1

• Be an obsolete form of energy as California moves towards electric vehicles

• Is within 500 feet of residential zoned land, violating Templeton community design plan V.F.3 (which limits hours to 5:00am – 11:00pm), and V.F.4, which prohibits the drive throughs.

• Forever change the charm and rural residential feel of Templeton and are not needed

According to the Vineyard Drive Corridor Plan: “Vineyard Drive is a pleasant rural road winding through bucolic ranches and farmsteads on their way to world-renowned wineries of the greater Paso Robles AVA region, from El Pomar to Adelaida. This corridor plan must remain cognizant of this regional, tourist, and recreational context. For locals and visitors alike, there is a desire to maintain the pastoral qualities of Vineyard Drive that must be balanced with the need to improve multimodal transportation mobility and operations.” This proposed project is not aligned with this plan.

This project is short sighted, of poor character, and is not aligned with the values of our small town. Templeton already has two existing gas stations and one additional approved one to be constructed. WE DO NOT NEED MORE.

There is no safe or ethical compromise for this proposed project. A gas station along Vineyard, no matter size, proposed scope of business, or ability to “work with the community”, is out of touch, inappropriate, and unnecessary.

On behalf of the following residents of Templeton, those employed in our community, or parents of children attending TUSD, please do not approve this project in any iteration.
